Passion, by dictionary definition, means: “a strong, barely controllable emotion” – this foundation is critically important to understand as I progress through this post. To be able to FEEL something so intense that you, yourself, can hardly put your hands around it, is the truest form of passion. If you ‘jog’ your memory for events or even tangible items that ignite this sort of spark inside you, I am sure you can conjure up a few things…
As a child from a “broken home” (my parents are divorced), strangers often told my Mother I may have “difficulties” in life due to a lack of “dual love and parenting” – I often wondered where all this doubt came from and made it my mission to not be a ‘statistic’, as so it was appropriately named. As I walk the path of life, it’s clear that a strong maternal figure could easily take the place of both parents when necessary – it was a superpower only a Mother was granted. Engrained in my head from the age of 9 was a mantra, though I did not take it seriously until about age 17: “you can do anything you want to do…just put your mind to it…and the quest will be conquered”.
As we age, not only do our minds morph and our pursuits change, but our physiques also become altered due to stressors (good and bad!). Engaging in physical activity has always been not only a passion of mine, but also an outlet of escape away from the monotony of daily life. I became very affixed to the science of exercise and the habits of healthy eating from a very young age and continue to dissect ingredients in food as well as the effects of artificial chemical additives on our bodies. A strong combination of physical exercise, in conjunction with a well-balanced diet and an uncluttered mind is the desired recipe for success. As a health care provider, there is clear evidence in front of me, daily, on the link between the three aforementioned factors and how each facet heavily relies on the others.
As one begins a journey on a road toward a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle, keep in mind the “bottom lines”:
No matter where you are at this moment, change can only be made possible with the PASSION and desire to do so. Imagine feeling so strongly about something, you can hardly put words to it…
