Hi! My name is Isabel Romero (aka Dr. V, Dr. Villicana or Dr. Romero). I was born in Ft Lauderdale, Florida, and grew up with my parents, brother and grandmother. My ethnicity is mostly Cuban and part Lebanese.
I have worked in several scattered positions throughout my life, just a few of which include a sports and fitness trainer, a medical researcher, a teacher, a writer, and most recently, a Dentist. My educational background includes all sorts of “nerdy” degrees like Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Exercise Physiology and Sports Medicine, and of course, Dentistry. Even though I was a Dentist for 10 years, I am currently not practicing due to a cervical spine injury which has left me with chronic paresthesias in my arms. However, I can still function quite well and am still in recovery! I have lived a large portion of my life trying to live up to my perceived expectations of who I should be or what I should be doing. I believe that stems in part from my eagerness to help and/or please people. I am a person who loves deeply, gives abundantly, and truly cares about the happiness and well-being of others. I am now trying to live a life of mindfulness and improving the quality of my life by becoming a better version of myself and being present in the moment. To me, there is nothing more important than health, happiness, and of course, love!
My deepest passion is making a difference in the lives of others. From the time I was a little girl, people have turned to me when they have a problem. I am known for my brutal honesty and for a “lack of filter”, which can also sometimes get me in trouble. Most people, however, say this is my best and most refreshing quality. The things I love are dance (all forms of dance), yoga, music, reading and sports/fitness activities in general—pretty much anything that is physically demanding. The harder the physical challenge, the more I seek it. Which is perhaps why I have so many injuries.
Most people see me as an extrovert because I am bubbly and a total goof-ball on the outside, but I believe my true nature is actually an introvert. I truly relish when I attain complete solitude, away from all the drama and chatter of the world. I feel happiest when I have my own personal space and am quiet with my own thoughts. Disconnecting from the chaos once in a while brings me peace.
Besides being a great mom, my main focus in life right now is becoming my true self again, primarily by focusing on my true passion which is health and fitness. I also have a business “project” that I am currently working on to achieve my ultimate goals and visions (and no, I won’t tell you! It’s a secret!). I believe true happiness in life comes from honesty with oneself, and the only way to do this is to have a fit mind. A fit mind is not possible without a healthy body. These elements on their own are a distinct beat that when put together, form a perfect rhythmical pattern. I believe the best life is one in which perfect harmony exists. And through this blog, it is my goal to help you achieve that.
Why Megan wanted to be part of Isabel’s team: “Isabel is one of the smartest and most loving people I know. She pushes me head first out of my comfort zone in order to achieve my personal best. She believes in me when I don’t even believe in myself and has so much positive energy to offer this world.”
Why Ashley wanted to be part of Isabel’s team: “As Robin Williams said: ‘You’re only given a little spark of madness, you mustn’t lose it.’ Isabel’s spark ignited my inner passion for health and fitness and has provided me an outlet to express my passion for these arenas! I did not want to lose out on becoming part of her madness.”
